Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

We collect your email address and password (hashed) when you create an account. We also collect the search queries you run (jurisdiction, fiscal year, search mode) and the reports you generate. We do not collect payment card data — that is handled entirely by Stripe.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used to authenticate your account, enforce plan limits, generate your search history and reports, and send you transactional emails (email verification, password reset, billing receipts). We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

3. Data Storage

Account data is stored on a secured DigitalOcean server. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text. Search records and generated reports are retained for the duration of your subscription to allow you to download past reports.

4. Third-Party Services

We use Stripe for payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy governs their handling of your payment data. We use USAspending.gov and Census Bureau APIs to retrieve federal spending data — no personal data is sent to these services.

5. Data Retention

Search history and generated reports are retained for the duration of your subscription. Upon account deletion, your personal data is removed within 30 days. Anonymized aggregate usage statistics may be retained indefinitely.

6. Security

Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers.

7. Your Rights

You may request a copy of your personal data, request deletion of your account and associated data, or opt out of non-essential emails at any time by contacting us at hello@fedaudit.org.

8. Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

9. Children's Privacy

FedAudit is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
